How to choose a chandelier

To find a good size, add the room's length and width in metres and multiply by 8. The answer is a starting width in centimetres, so a 4 m by 5 m room suits a chandelier about 70 cm wide. Over a dining table, choose one around half to two-thirds of the table's width and hang it 75 to 90 cm above the tabletop.

In entries and hallways, leave at least 2.1 m clear from the floor. Crystal and multi-light chandeliers can be heavy, so ask your electrician to check the ceiling fixing first.
